Уходит день, и в комнате потёмки,
И в ней ещё не зажжена свеча,
А за столом сидит сам князь Потёмкин,
От гнева весь багровый, и бурча:
"Проклятый шейх Мансур все мысли спутал;
Он, право, мне - что в горле кость, ей - ей!
Зловещей тенью он меня окутал,
И изумляет дерзостью своей!"
О, ля иляха илля Ллаъ!
Страх клич Мансура вселял!
Умеет этот шейх Мансур нежданно
Как призрак появляться, там, где не ждут!
И в тактике искусен, как ни странно,
Но в Петербурге ж это не поймут!
Как князю этот шейх Мансур мешает;
Он дни и ночи - в думах про него,
И много золота князь обещает,
Коль сможет кто принесть главу его!
О, ля иляха илля Ллаъ!
Страх клич Мансура вселял!
И в гневе князь Потёмкин набирает
Отряд из славных на всю Русь полков;
Вооружив их щедро, в путь сбирает,
Наставив прежде бравых молодцов:
"Наказ вам, братцы! Мстящею рукою
Аул Мансура сжечь, сравнять с землёй,
И пусть над Сунжей горною рекою
Его пожарищ дым всё кроет мглой!"
О, ля иляха илля Ллаъ!
Страх клич Мансура вселял!
И был аул Алды сожжён нещадно:
Всех - женщин и детей и стариков, -
Рубили до едино беспощадно! -
Так нам гласит предание веков.
И жажду крови утолив так мерзко,
К соседним сёлам двинулись войска,
Но тут им в тыл Мансур ударил дерзко,
И слышалось "Аллах" издалека!
О, ля иляха илля Ллаъ!
Страх клич Мансура вселял!
Столь яростной была его атака,
Что враг где - небо, где - земля не знал!
Покинула в тот день солдат отвага,
А шейх их прямо в Сунжу всех загнал.
И здесь, жалея пуль для отщепенцев,
Забили горцы камнями их рать;
И сколь ещё невесть в краю чеченцев
Бесславно русы, будут умирать!?
О, ля иляха илля Ллаъ!

Aul Mansur burn, raze to the ground,
And let the mountain river over the Sunzha
His conflagration smoke covers everything with darkness! "

So the legend of the ages tells us.
And quenching my thirst for blood so vile
Troops moved to neighboring villages,
But then Mansur boldly hit them in the rear,
And "Allah" was heard from afar!

Courage left the soldier that day,
And the sheikh drove them all straight to Sunzha.

The highlanders stoned their army;
