2. І породила Ґілеадова жінка йому синів. І повиростали сини тієї жінки, та й вигнали °фтаха, і сказали йому: Не будеш володіти в домі нашого батька, бо ти син іншої жінки!
3. І втік °фтах перед своїми братами, і осівся в краї Тов. І зібралися до °фтаха гулящі люди, та й виходили з ним.
4. І сталося по часі, і воювали Аммонові сини з Ізраїлем.
5. І сталося, як воювали Аммонові сини з Ізраїлем, то пішли ґілеадські старші, щоб забрати °фтаха з краю Тов.
6. І сказали вони до °фтаха: Іди ж, і будеш нам провідником, і будемо воювати з Аммоновими синами.
7. І сказав °фтах до ґілеадських старших: Чи ж не ви зненавидили мене, і вигнали мене з дому мого батька? І чого ви прийшли до мене тепер, коли ви в біді?
8. І сказали ґілеадські старші до °фтаха: Зате ми тепер вернулися до тебе! І ти піди з нами, і будемо воювати з Аммоновими синами, і станеш нам головою для всіх мешканців ґілеадських.
9. І сказав °фтах до ґілеадських старших: Якщо ви мене вернете воювати з Аммоновими синами, і Господь дасть їх, щоб були побиті передо мною, то чи я стану вам головою?
10. І сказали ґілеадські старші до °фтаха: Нехай Господь буде свідком поміж нами, що так, як слово твоє, так зробимо.
11. І пішов °фтах з ґілеадськими старшими, і народ настановив його собі за голову та провідника, а °фтах промовляв усі свої слова перед Господнім лицем у Міцпі.
12. І послав °фтах послів до царів Аммонових синів, говорячи: Що тобі до мене, що ти прийшов до мене воювати з моїм краєм?
13. І сказав цар Аммонових синів до °фтахових послів: Бо Ізраїль забрав мій край, коли він виходив з Єгипту, від Арнону й аж до Яббоку та аж до Йордану. А тепер верни ж їх у мирі.
14. А °фтах ще послав послів до царя Аммонових синів,
15. і сказав йому: Так сказав °фтах: Не взяв Ізраїль краю Моавого та краю Аммонових синів,
16. бо коли йшли вони з Єгипту, то Ізраїль ішов по пустині аж до Червоного моря, і прийшов до Кадешу.
17. І послав Ізраїль послів до едомського царя, говорячи: Нехай я перейду твоїм краєм, та не послухав едомський цар. І послав він також до царя моавського, та й той не хотів. І осівся Ізраїль у Кадешу.
18. І пішов він пустинею, і обійшов край едомський та край моавський, і прийшов зо сходу сонця до моавського краю, та й таборували по тім боці Арнону, а в моавські границі не входили, бо Арнон границя Моава.
19. І послав Ізраїль послів до Сихона, царя аморейського, царя хешбонського, і сказав йому Ізраїль: Нехай ми перейдемо твоїм краєм аж до місця свого.
20. І не вірив Сихон Ізраїлеві, щоб він мирно перейшов його границями. І зібрав Сихон увесь народ свій, та й таборували в Йохці, і воювали з Ізраїлем.
21. І дав Господь, Бог Ізраїля, Сихона та ввесь народ його в Ізраїлеву руку, вони побили їх. І посів Ізраїль увесь край амореянина, мешканця того краю.
22. І вони посіли всю аморейську країну від Арнону й аж до Яббоку, і від пустині та аж до Йордану.
23. А тепер Господь, Бог Ізраїлів, вигнав Амореянина перед народом Своїм, Ізраїлем, а ти посядеш його?
24. Отож, що дасть тобі на насліддя Кемош, бог твій, те ти посядеш, а все, де вигнав Господь, Бог наш, перед нами, те ми посядемо.
25. А тепер чи справді ти ліпший від Балака, Ціппорового сина, царя моавського? Чи сваритися сварився він з Ізраїлем? Чи воювати воював із ними?
26. Коли Ізраїль сидів у Хешбоні та в підлеглих містах його, і в Ар'орі та в підлеглих містах його, і по всіх містах, що над Арноном, три сотні літ, то чому не відібрали ви їх за той час?
27. А тобі я не згрішив, а ти робиш зо мною зло, щоб воювати зо мною. Нехай розсудить Господь, що судить сьогодні між Ізраїлевими синами та між синами Аммоновими.
28. Та цар Аммонових синів не послухався слів °фтаха, що до нього посилав.
29. І Дух Господній перебував на °фтахові, і він перейшов Ґілеад та Манасію, і перейшов ґілеадську Міцпе, а з ґілеадської Міцпе перейшов до Аммонових синів.
30. І обіцяв °фтах обітницю Господеві й сказав: Якщо справді даси Ти Аммонових синів у мою руку,
31. то станеться, виходячий, що вийде з дверей мого дому навпроти мене, коли я вертатимусь з миром від Аммонових синів, то буде він для Господа, і я принесу його в цілопалення.
32. І прийшов °фтах до Аммонових синів воювати з ними, а Господь дав їх у його руку.
33. І він побив їх дуже великою поразкою від Ароеру й аж туди, де йти до Мінніту, двадцять міст, і аж до Авел-Кераміму. І впокорилися Аммонові сини перед синами Ізраїлевими.
34. І прийшов °фтах до Міцпи до свого дому, аж ось виходить навпроти нього дочка його з бубнами та з танцями! А вона була в нього тільки одна, не було в нього, окрім неї, ані сина, ані дочки.
35. І сталося, як він побачив її, то роздер одежу свою та й сказав: Ах, дочко моя! Ти справді повалила мене, і ти стала однією з тих, що нещасливлять мене. Бо я дав Господеві обіта, і не можу відмовитися від нього.
36. А вона відказала йому: Батьку мій, ти дав обітницю Господеві, зроби мені, як вийшло з твоїх уст, коли Господь зробив тобі пімсту на твоїх ворогів, на Аммонових синів.
37. І сказала вона до свого батька: Нехай буде мені зроблена оця річ 1. And the Gileadian was a brave warrior. And he was the son of a harlot woman, and Gilead with her father gave birth to Phatha.

6. And they said unto Phatha, Go, and lead us, and fight with the children of Ammon.
7. And O Phatti said unto the elders of Gilead, Hast thou not hated me, and cast me out of my father's house? And why did you come to me now when you are in trouble?
8. And the elders of Gilead said unto Phatha, But now we have returned unto thee. And you shall go with us and fight against the Ammonites, and you shall become our head for all the inhabitants of Gilead.
9. And Pharaoh said unto the elders of Gilead: If you will return me to fight with the Ammonites, and the LORD will give them, that they may be beaten before me, will I be your head?
10. And the elders of Gilead said unto Phatha, The LORD be witness among us, that we will do as your word is.
11. And he went up with Phileas with the elders of Gilead, and the people set him at the head and the leader; and Phatti spake all his words before the LORD in Mizpah.
12. And he sent messengers to the kings of the Ammonites, saying, What meanest thou unto me, that thou hast come near to fight against me in the land?
13. And the king of the children of Ammon said to the Pharaoh's messengers: For Israel took away my land, when he came out of Egypt, from Arnon, even unto Jabbok, and even unto Jordan. And now, return them in peace.
14. And Phothas also sent messengers unto the king of the children of Ammon,
15. And he said unto him, Thus said the Phatta: Israel took not the land of Moab, nor the land of the children of Ammon,
16 For when they were coming from Egypt, then Israel went through the wilderness to the Red Sea, and came to Kadesh.
17. And Israel sent messengers to the king of Edom, saying, Let me pass over to thy land, and the king of Edom did not hearken. And he sent to the king of Moab, and he did not want to. And Israel dwelt in Kadesh.
18. And he went to the wilderness, and went round the land of Edom and the land of Moab, and came from the rising of the sun to the land of Moab, and encamped on that side of Arnon, and did not enter into the borders of Moab, for Arnon was the border of Moab.
19. And Israel sent messengers to Sihon king of the Amorites, king of Heshbon, and Israel said to him, Let us pass over your land unto his place.
20. And Sihon did not believe in Israel, that he might peacefully pass through his borders. And Sihon gathered all his people, and encamped in Jocca, and fought against Israel.
21. And the LORD, the God of Israel, gave to Sihon, and all his people into the hand of Israel, they smote them. And Israel drew all the land of the Amorites, inhabitants of that land.
22. And they took possession of the whole Amorite, from Arnon, even unto Jabbok, and from the wilderness, even unto Jordan.
23. And now, the Lord God of Israel, has driven the Amorite before his people, Israel, and you will possess it?
24. Therefore, what will you give to Chemosh your inheritance, that you will inherit, and all that Jehovah our God has cast out, before us, we will inherit.
25. And now, are you really better than Balak, the son of Zippor, king of Moab? Is he quarreling with Israel? Did war fought with them?
26. When Israel sat in Heshbon and its subordinate cities, and in Ar'or, and in its subordinate cities, and in all the cities that were over Arnon, three hundred years, why did you not take them away at that time?
27. But I have not sinned against thee, and thou hast done evil with me, to fight with me. Let the judgment of the Lord judge between the children of Israel and the children of Ammon.
28. And the king of the children of Ammon did not hearken unto the words of Phatha, which had sent him.
29. And the Spirit of the Lord was on the throne, and he passed over Gilead and Manasseh, and passed over to Gilead's Mizpeh, and from Gilead, Mizpeh, passed over to the Ammonites.
30. And he promised in ° a Phat a vow to the Lord, and said: If you truly give the Ammonites into my hand,
31. And it shall come to pass, that when it comes out of the door of my house in front of me, when I return to the world from the Ammonites, it will be to the Lord, and I will bring it to the burnt offering.
32 And when the Ammonites came to war with them, the LORD delivered them into his hand.
33 And he smote them with a very great defeat from Aroer, even unto the place where they go to Minnith, twenty cities, even unto Abel-keramim. And the sons of Ammon humble themselves before the children of Israel.
34. And he came to Mizpah to his house, and, behold, a daughter came out opposite him with tambourines and dances. And she was only one of her, there was not him except her, neither her son nor daughters.
35 And it came to pass, when he saw her, that he rent his clothes, and said, Ah my daughter! You really overthrew me, and you became one of those who would not have missed me. For I have given the Lord a vow, and I can not refuse him.
36. And she said to him, "My father, you have vowed the Lord, do me, as it came out of your mouth, when the LORD made you a vengeance on yours
