Война папства против Священного Писания была настолько яростной, что случались времена, когда в мире оставалось всего несколько экземпляров Слова Божьего. Through the providence of God, they turned to the Holy Scriptures and studied the holy pages with the greatest interest. They wanted to receive the light, whatever it cost, and although they could not comprehend everything at once, many of the previously hidden truths became clear to them. As messengers sent by the sky, they tried to break the fetters of delusion and superstition and called upon those who were long enslaved to protect their freedom.
The time has come when the Holy Scripture could be translated from Greek and Latin, so that people can read it in their native language. The time of midnight for the world has passed. In many countries, the gloom gradually dissipated under the rays of the rising sun.
The morning star of the Reformation
In the XIV century, the "morning star of the Reformation" ascended to England. John Wycliffe was a messenger of reforms not only in this country, but throughout the Christian world. He became the predecessor of the Puritans, and his era became a spiritual oasis among the wilderness of immorality.
The Lord decided to entrust His work to the one whose talent will give him the proper authority, and his works will add weight and significance. The intellect and education of D. Wycliffe convinced the distrustful, helped to prevent the opponents of the truth from discrediting his activities. While still a student, Wycliffe began to study the Bible. Having learned the Scriptures, Wycliffe dedicated himself to the service of Christ and firmly decided to preach the truths revealed to them.
The greatest work of his life was the first ever full translation of the Bible into English. Printing at that time was still unknown, the Bible was copied by hand, which cost a very laborious and tedious labor of copyists. Wycliffe managed to complete her work, and the people of England received the Bible in their native language. Thus, the light of God's Word began to radiate its bright rays against the darkness. The divine hand prepared the way for the great Reformation.
The appeal to the consciousness of people brought them out of a state of passive obedience to the papal doctrine. The upper classes of the society kindly adopted the Holy Scripture in their native language. At that time, only rich and wealthy people could read and write. Wycliffe began to preach the basic tenets of Protestantism-salvation through faith in Christ and the infallibility of the Holy Scripture. Many priests joined him, spreading the Bible and preaching the Gospel. Their activities were so successful that almost half of the inhabitants of England adopted a new faith.
