Doch was war mit der neuen Gefahr, die da entstand:
Das Volk, es hielt die Waffen in der Hand!
Er kämpfte an des Bürgers Seit`
und scheute keinen Schuß,

stand er Gewehr bei Fuß.
Der kleine Mann hat umgerührt,
hat alles mitgemacht,
doch jetzt wird gegen ihn geführt
die aller letzte Schlacht.
Ganz vorn stand er im Pulverdampf,
wo ihn die Kugeln trafen.
Doch in dem allerletzten Kampf
da geht’s um seine Waffen.
Und er kam viel zu häufig vor,
wie eine eigne Klasse,
da spuckte das Kanonenrohr
den Tod in diese Masse.
Der Bürger hat Radau gemacht,
was viele sehr entsetzte.
Doch immer nach der letzten Schlacht,
gabs eine allerletzte.
Der kleine Mann hat umgerührt,
hat alles mitgemacht.
Doch jetzt wird gegen ihn geführt
die allerletzte Schlacht.
Und die Moral von der Geschichte
ist eine Wahrheit, eine schlichte:
Nur das Bündnis mit der Reaktion
rettet des Bürgers Situation.
Franz Josef, dem nichts erspart blieb,
Fürst Bismark, der immer hart blieb,
der erste, zweite, dritte Napoleon
folgten der Bürgerrevolution.
Der kleine Mann hat umgerührt,
hat alles mitgemacht,
doch jetzt wird gegen ihn geführt
die aller letzte Schlacht.
Und lang hing dem geplagten Volke
vor der Sonn` die schwarze Wolke.

However, in the last battle

And the moral of the story
is a truth , a simple :
Only the alliance with the reaction
saves the citizen situation.
