George Marjanovic (October 30, 1931, Kuchevo) is a Serbian singer and composer. Already in his childhood, George began to show acting skills. In 1950 he came to Belgrade and entered the institute, where he studied for a pharmacist for almost 4 years and without any interest. The turning point came in 1954. The commonwealth of jazz musicians of Serbia organized a competition - audition for beginners singers. Of the 200 applicants, only seven were selected. And one of them - Maryanovich (who performed the song "Moulin Rouge"). Success freed George from pharmaceuticals, and he completely focused on the stage. Soon the first records began to appear. The first public appearance of George Marjanovic took place in 1959, when he performed at a concert in Nis as a soloist. For spectators, he was an outsider. And criticism noted "lack of singing talent and defiant behavior." In the same year, Marjanovic took part in the first Opatija festival. At that absolute victory was won by the then idol of the public Ivo Robich, who performed in a duet with sixteen-year-old Zdenka Vuckovic. Their song "Little Girl" ("Daddy, buy me a car") became the number one hit in Yugoslavia. The success of Maryanovich was not so deafening. Although he received three awards. However, there was an event that immediately changed the fate of the young singer. The speech of George Marjanovic at the concert shown on Belgrade television, with the song "Whistle at 8:00" by Darko Kraljic ("Zvižduk u osam"), made the Yugoslav public into a state of shock. Never before in the country did not appear a singer, so freely and uninhibitedly kept on the stage. Marjanovic did not stand, like the others, at the microphone. And he moved with him on the stage, crouched, fell to his knees, descended to the audience. Throughout Yugoslavia immediately swept the so-called. "Georgeemania." In March 1961, after the Festival "Belgrade Spring", when George did not receive the "Golden Microphone", the enraged Marjanovic fans gathered in the square of Marx and Engels (now the Nikola Pasich Square), besieged the "Syndicate's House" and demanded a review of the results. Arriving at the place of the police forces began to disperse the demonstration, which caused even more bitterness. To calm the crowd, the authorities asked her idol to speak. George Marjanovic climbed the car and sang several songs. Then he left the square literally in the hands of his admirers. From that time, the brightest musical career of George Marjanovich began. The singer released a huge number of records, and many of his songs became hits not only in Yugoslavia, but in many other countries. In the USSR, Marianovic was first talked about in 1963 after the release of the picture "Love and Fashion", where he performed his popular song "Devojko mala". The first tour of Maryanovich in the Soviet Union took place in 1963. He performed in many cities of the USSR. In April 1989 he was in Melbourne. April 14, right at the concert with George Maryanovich, a heart attack occurred. Performing the song "I have no one to regret," he suddenly fell. Fortunately, everything went without serious consequences (although the singer could not talk for a while). This concludes the solo performances of George Marjanovic. Nevertheless, he appears at the concerts of his colleagues, participates in TV programs. In late 1999, George Marjanovic, along with Iosif Kobzon, took part in a teleconference in support of the Serbian people, against the NATO bombing. George Marjanovich lives in Belgrade. He and his wife, Eli, have three children. Two daughters, Natalia and Nevena, as well as the son of Marco.
